Amex points just got WAY better.

How the Alaska x Hawaiian merger makes amex the hottest points on the market...

Some seriously big news hit the travel/points world this week.

This Alaska x Hawaiian merger is a big deal.

This is big for everyone who cares about cheap flights, but really big if you:

  • Have Amex points.

  • Live on the west coast.

  • Live in an American Airlines hub.

  • Remotely care about travel & points.

Let’s get into the details.

The Merger.

Not all mergers go well.

Stamford just couldn’t handle Scranton’s standard of excellence.

But this Hawaiian x Alaska Airlines merger should be better.

Here’s what you need to know:

TL;DR: You can now transfer Hawaiian miles to Alaska at a 1:1 ratio.

This means, if you have Amex points (they transfer to Hawaiian), you have Alaska miles.

Yes, Buzz, it is.

Because Alaska Mileage Plan is the best loyalty program in the country and some argue one of the best in the world.

So, to remind you, for the millions of people out there with stacks of Amex points, you can now transfer your Amex points to Alaska Airlines.

This is a big deal.

Some normal person ways to use Alaska Miles:

Alaska is part of Oneworld. This means you can book American Airlines flights with Alaska points.

Philly to Key West: 15k points RT

LAX —> Anchorage: 20k points RT.

ORD —> Oklahoma City: 9k points RT

Alaska shines with shorter haul domestic flights on American Airlines.

Here’s some fancier ways to use Alaska Miles:

JAL Business class Seattle —> Tokyo: 60k points one-way

Cash price of that flight is $4,617 right now…

Phoenix —> Honolulu for 17.5k points one-way

Not bad at ALL to Hawaii.

Earning Amex points:

It’s quite easy.

I’d check out these three credit cards:

Before you know it, you could have 100k Amex points.

That’s enough for 22 short-haul one-way flights around the U.S. booked through Alaska. Wild!
