7 ways to book the same flight✈️
this will change how you find deals.
Writing this newsletter like I mailed in my absentee ballot… very last minute.
Happy election day to all, hope you read this while you’re annoyed results still haven’t come in.
Good news:
My course, Go Somewhere is taking off & the people are loving it. If you like this newsletter, you’ll love the course.
Bad news:
I learned this week that the Amex x Alaska partnership may not last very long. For all of you Amex people out there, you may have only a few months to get some CRAZY good deals transferring to Alaska Airlines.
Today’s topic is fun - let’s get into it.
All the ways to be smart book a flight
This is my daughter’s favorite book right now:

It’s quite cute. I’ll do my own version today - all the ways to book a flight.
But seriously, I’ve got an important lesson for you guys today about transferring points & partner airlines.
We’re going to see how if we can book the same flight from Charlotte, NC to Chicago with 7 different airline programs.
The Flight:

Typically, my clients can get this far. This is the flight they want, but they don’t know how to book it because no bank transfers to American Airlines.
Well, remember the airline alliance chart?

Fun right! You can book American flights through Oneworld partner airlines.
Let’s try this out:
British Airways
Failure. Only the connecting flight was available and it’s pricey.

Remember, every major bank transfers to British Airways!
Alaska Airlines:
Easy money.

You can transfer Amex points to Hawaiian then from there to Alaska!
Qantas:
Let’s go! A great price on the correct flight.

Remember, Amex & Capital One transfer to Qantas.
Qatar:
Well this is annoying.

Other American hubs like Miami & Chicago show up, but not Charlotte for whatever reason. In principle, this should work.
Remember, if you can transfer to British Airways, you can then transfer from BA to Qatar!
Iberia:
Found it!

But dang, terrible price. If this was a good price, you could transfer points from your bank to British Airways then to Iberia. Some banks transfer right to Iberia.
Etihad
Got it.

Again, not a great deal comparatively.
Cathay Pacific:
Everyone forgets about this program. But they’re good. And many of the banks transfer directly to them.
If you wanted to optimize for this program, I’d pick up the Capital One Venture X.

10,000 points isn’t bad at all.
There you have it folks.
7 different options to book a random domestic flight next summer.
By the way, the cash price is $177, so almost all of these options are good deals.
Does this overwhelm you?
I make this easy for people.
Check out my trip planning services - I do the grunt work of searching all these programs so you don’t have to.
